Site Preparation
2.12.4.
p/n 6510020208
Experience has shown that mill water is detrimental to the life of the heads
unless it can be absolutely ensured that the incoming water supply is
clean (free of mineral, biological, and particulate contaminants) and non-
corrosive. See Subsection 2.12.6 for chiller requirements. Use water-glycol
(50%-50%) mixtures in closed loop chillers or heat exchangers to prevent
the growth of biological life in the cooling water and reduce corrosion.
Coolant and coolant return (or drain) lines connect to the scanner at the
manifold at the bottom of the cable end support. From the manifold, the
fluid flows to the sensor heads.
Site preparation must include providing plumbing (1.2-cm or 0.5-inch
pipe) from both the fluid source and drain, at approximately floor level, to
approximately 1.5 m (5 ft) from the planned location of the cable end
support. Limit the pipe run to approximately 15 m (50 ft). Insulating the
pipe is strongly recommended if its length exceeds 10 m (30 ft). The piping
should be at approximately floor level and the drain should not be above
the level of the scanner.
No fluid line hookup is required at the heads. The power tracks are
already connected to hoses that enter the heads.
Using mill water or other potable-quality water
in an open-loop system
In the case of an open-loop system, site preparation must include
providing potable-quality water that satisfies the following requirements:
• 2.7–4.1 Bar (40–60 psi) pressure, 2–8 liters/minute (0.5–2 gal)
flow rate
• not exceeding 30°C (86°F)
Higher temperatures may not provide adequate cooling and
significantly lower temperatures may result in condensation.
• Non-corrosive, low mineral and biological content
The water must be non-corrosive to the items with which it comes
into contact in the Precision Platform. For example, there must be
assurance that copper tubes in the heat exchangers within the
