• Ensure that bends in the rigid conduit do not damage the
conduit wall or reduce the internal diameter, as per NEC
requirements. NEC further specifies that a run of conduit from
outlet to outlet, from fitting to fitting, or from outlet to fitting
must not contain the equivalent of four quarter bends (360
degrees total), including bends located immediately at the outlet
or fitting.
• Use insulated bushings so that wires exiting conduits are
protected from abrasion.
• Use pull boxes or oversized elbows below stations and at major
junctions to facilitate cable pulling and to minimize the risk of
cable damage.
• Per NEC specifications, size the pull boxes to provide adequate
space for all conductors in each box.
• Do not fill conduits more than 40% of full.
The following cable tray requirements either meet or exceed the NEC
specifications for ensuring a protective passageway for the system cables.
All installation work must conform to local regulations.
Use of a cable tray in place of rigid metal conduit is acceptable only
when doing so conforms to NEC standards.
• Use one of these tray systems (in decreasing order of
preference):
• Fully-enclosed ducting with tight-fitting cover
• Open ducting
• Ventilated trough
• Solid tray
• Ventilated tray or open ladder
