windows and they help control the internal head temperature. At many
locations, they are not needed because there is little humidity and the
ambient temperatures are low. The reel scanner on a newsprint machine is
an example.
If the heaters are being used, check them daily. Carefully touch the sheet
guide on the downstream side. It should be hot and there should not be
any condensation on the windows.
The heaters are ON or OFF. No controller is used. If the heaters are cold,
check the voltage at the head. The termination block is under one of the
external head hose covers next to the sheet guide.
It is very rare for a heater to fail. Notify Honeywell Customer Service if
replacement is necessary.

Air wipe heaters

The air wipe heaters are installed on the external air wipe assemblies.
They heat the air that is blown into the head gap. This air is used to clean
the sensor windows, eliminate condensation, and maintain the air at an
elevated temperature when the sensors are offsheet.
Check the air temperature daily with your hand where the air exits the
gap. The exiting air should be above the ambient temperature. The
controller is located on the ECU inside each head, as shown in Figure 9-13.
This is not applicable on the 4022-40 Wire Calender Scanner model as air
wipe heaters are not present.

Maintaining the potable water cooling system (open loop)
