The name PrecisionPak reflects the fact that each head is an
environmentally secure enclosure that houses and protects the sensors for
measuring sheet characteristics. An internal-environment control system in
each head ensures accurate measurements by providing appropriate
temperature and humidity conditions for the sensors, and by preventing
contaminants (dirt, moisture, corrosive gases, and so on) from entering the
heads.
The PrecisionPak4 (Figure 5-9) houses four primary sensors: Basis Weight,
Moisture, and two other optional sensors (for example, Color or Ash).
Secondary sensors like x,y,z head displacement, air gap temperature, and
sheet temperature can be fitted to the head.
The specific array of sensors found in any given head is site dependent.
Most sensors are mounted inside the heads. However, outboard
environmentally secure enclosures are available to mount sensors external
to the main heads. For typical head configurations, refer to the scanner
installation drawings.
For head maintenance information, see Section 9.9.
The head covers prevent ambient environment conditions from affecting the
sensors. The covers resist high temperatures and include electromagnetic
interference (EMI) shielding. They can be removed easily with a standard
Rittal cabinet tool to allow maintenance access on both sides of the head.
The removable covers for the PrecisionPak4 and PrecisionPak6 heads are
shown in Figure 5-9.
