Mechanical or electronic device that performs the control action in a
control loop.
See Drive Side.
The smallest measurement zone on the frame. Also called Bucket
or Slice.

Location of the electronics and/or the entry point for
communications and power on the scanner.
Fabricated steel structure welded to the upper and lower beams at
the cable end of the scanner.
Cross Direction
Used to refer to those properties of a process measurement or
control device that are determined by its position along a line that
runs across the paper machine. The Cross Direction is transverse to
the MD (Machine Direction) that relates to a position along the
length of the paper machine.
Variation in the profile data equal to twice the standard deviation
of the measured variable.
