21. Appendix II –– Troubleshooting
In case you encounter any problems, please refer to the following table before calling the
service, as you might be able to solve the problem yourself using the instructions below.

The device will not turn
on.
There
is

ECG
signal.
The ECG signal is
noisy.
QRS is small.
HR is not measured.
HR error.
HR measurements are
incorrect.
There are "spikes" on
the ECG.
No diagnosis is made.

device

Connect the device to the mains power
supply. Check the fuses.
Check if the patient cable is connected to
the device. Make sure the limb electrodes
are placed properly, cleaned before use,
and that gel is applied.
Check the electrode cable, apply gel onto
the electrodes.
Make sure, there are no electric devices in
the vicinity of the patient which could
cause noise. Enable the filters.
Check the electrode cable, the condition of
the electrodes, electrode attachment.

gel on them.
Check electrode positions, and try to adjust
precordial electrode placement.
Check the attachment of the electrodes. See
the previous point.
Check the ECG as described in the
previous two points.
Check the quality of ECG based on the
curves, and follow the steps from the
previous points.
In a noisy environment the device may
misplace the pacemaker signal spikes.
Check that the ECG cable is not in the
vicinity of another cable or device.
Check the signal quality, and make sure
that the heart rate is between 45 and
175BPM.
Put paper into the device.
Make sure the paper tray is closed
properly.
Use the paper recommended by the
page
manufacturer. The page boundary markers
should be at the upper quarter of the page
boundary as shown on page 14.
