6. Maintenance

6.1 Safety information

WARNING:
Allow the pump to cool (so that it is at a safe temperature for skin contact) before
starting maintenance work. Make sure the pump is switched off in case the thermal
overload device restarts the pump.
WARNING:
Obey the safety instructions given below and take note of appropriate precautions.
Failure to do so can cause injury to people and damage to equipment.
If the pump is PFPE-prepared, refer to
maintaining the pump.
A suitably trained and supervised technician must maintain the pump. Obey local
and national safety requirements.
Ensure that the maintenance technician is familiar with the safety procedures
which relate to the pump-oil and the products processed by the pumping system.
Check that all the required parts are available and of the correct type before
starting work.
Isolate the pump and other components from the electrical supply so that they
cannot be operated accidentally.
Do not reuse O-rings and seals if they are damaged.
After maintenance is completed, recheck the direction of pump rotation if the
electrical supply has been disconnected.
The pump and the pump-oil will be contaminated with the process chemicals that
have been pumped during operation. Ensure that the pump is decontaminated
before maintenance and that adequate precautions are taken to protect people
from the effects of dangerous substances if contamination has occurred.
Do not touch or inhale the thermal breakdown products of fluorinated materials
which may be present if the pump has been heated to 310 °C and above.
Fluorinated materials are safe in normal use but can decompose into very
dangerous substances (which may include hydrofluoric acid) if they are heated to
310 °C and above. The pump may have overheated if it was misused, if it
malfunctioned, or if it was in a fire. Material Safety Data Sheets for fluorinated
materials used in the pump are available on request: contact us or the supplier.
If necessary, maintain the motor as specified in the manufacturer's information
supplied with the motor.
