Button Modules

The addition of button modules allows the phone to support additional programmable buttons.
• Do not connect or disconnect a button module yourself. Your system administrator will
arrange this if necessary. Failure to connect and restart the equipment in the correct order
may cause the phone and or the button module to function incorrectly.
• The button modules are powered via the phone. Button modules can be powered by a phone
using Power over Ethernet (PoE), this changes the phone from a Class 1 to a Class 2 device.
However, to support more than two button modules, the phone must be powered by a J100
mains power supply unit rather than by PoE.
• JEM24 and JBM24 button modules cannot be combined on the same phone.
JBM24 Button Modules
Both the J169 and J179 telephones can support up to 3 JBM24 button modules. Each module
provides the phone with 24 additional programmable buttons.
Each button has a 13 character display for the button label plus an adjacent dual-LED button. The
button LEDs are used to indicate the status of the button feature whilst pressing the button is used
to access the feature.
JEM24 Button Modules
Both the J169 and J179 telephones can support up to 3 JEM24 button modules. Each JEM24 has
24 dual-LED buttons with adjacent button label display. The button LEDs are used to indicate the
status of the button feature whilst pressing the button is used to access the feature.
A single JEM24 supports 72 programmable button slots. These are arranged in 3-pages, with
pages accessed using the module's page scroll button. When multiple modules are connected to a
phone, each module only supports a single page of 24 programmable button slots.
• Note: When in 3-page mode, there is no indication of when programmed button slots not on
the page being displayed are altering.
The modules automatically match the display settings of the phone to which they are connected
(color with J179 or greyscale with J169, font size, background image, screen saver).
