9.4 Updating Windows

9.3

Activating/deactivating the service mode

You must activate the Windows Application Control Service mode to install software and
updates on the IPC. To restore access protection for the IPC, deactivate the service mode after the
software has been installed.
Prerequisites
• A Remote Desktop connection has been established from the local service PC to the IPC.
• You have administrator rights
Activating the service mode
1. On the IPC desktop, open link "AppLocker".
2. Select script "010_disable_applicationcontrol".
3. In the shortcut menu, execute command "Run as administrator".
The service mode is activated. The whitelist is deactivated.
4. Install the software and/or the updates.
Deactivating the service mode
1. Select script "020_whitelist".
2. In the shortcut menu, execute command "Run as administrator".
Executing the script can take several minutes. You can ignore the alarms that are output.
The service mode is activated. Whitelisting is deactivated.
3. Select script "030_enable_ applicationcontrol_wo_DLL".
4. In the shortcut menu, execute command "Run as administrator".
The IPC restarts.
The service mode is deactivated. The whitelist is reactivated.
Result
The software and/or the updates are installed and entered into the whitelist.

security concept. Software updates play an important role in ensuring stable system operation
when it comes to closing security gaps that have been identified.
