Overview of the overall system

The following diagram provides you with an overview of the system:
SIMOTICS CONNECT 600
SIMATIC IPC127E
Local
Service PC
Induction motor
Direct physical network connection (point-to-point Ethernet cable) to the local service PC for commissioning and
maintenance
Dedicated network connection (e.g. VLAN) between the IPC and the sensor box attached to the motor
We recommend using an Industrial Ethernet security module at the interface between the internal production network
and the external network (Internet)

Data security

The IPC saves the converter data unencrypted until it is transferred into the Cloud. The IPC
transfers the data into the Cloud according to the TLS standard (Transport Layer Security V1.2)
encrypted via an additional firewall (Windows Firewall).
Always keep the Windows Firewall activated to protect the device.
Before returning or disposing of the connectivity module, delete all data on the IPC. The relevant
instructions can be found in Chapter Deleting the data of the connectivity module (Page 58).
Hardening measures
Information about hardening measures is available on the Internet
global/en/home/products/services/cert.html). Under no circumstance weaken the following
hardening measures of the connectivity module.
• Verification of the operating system integrity
• Windows updates
• Configuration of the Windows Firewall
