Typical Fuel Tank

Vessels manufactured for domestic use are now
required to be outfi tted with an EPA compliant fuel
system using an aluminum tank that must pass a
battery of tests. This system uses special valves
and baffl es located inside the fuel tank along with
special hoses marked for low permeability. Also,
there is a carbon canister in-line with the vent hose
which functions much like the one in an automobile
by fi ltering gas fumes. The carbon canister rarely
needs to be replaced and is not a serviceable item.
These tanks are tested and inspected along with
the complete fuel system several times for safety
requirements and quality by the fuel tank supplier,
in house personnel and independent inspections
by National Marine Manufacturers Association
personnel.

The fuel fi ll fi tting is labeled "gas" and in addition
displays the international symbol (See the next

in contact with the fuel fi ll pipe since it decreases
effects of static electricity. Always use the
recommended fuel octane rating as specifi ed in
your engine owner's manual.
