Daughter Card Details
Media Switch Fabric mezzanine
The MSF mezzanine connects to the MSF interface of the IXP2400. Several flavors are
planned, thereby providing added expansion and flexibility.
IO-920
IO-920 MSF Mezzanine card is designed for use in Single Slot complex board. The IO-920
accommodates an Intel® IXF1104 Four Port Gigabit Ethernet Media Access Controller
(Vallejo), a Marvell 88E1145 Quad Gigabit Ethernet Transceiver, multiplexers and demulti-
lpexers.
Quad Gigabit Ethernet MAC
The Intel® IXF1104 is a 4 x 1 Gigabit Ethernet MAC device that provides a 2.4 to 4.0 Gbps
network processor interface to four individual 10/100/1000 Mbps full-duplex and 10/100 half-
duplex-capable Ethernet Media Access Controllers (MACs). The interface to the network pro-
cessor is supported through a System Packet Interface Phase 3 (SPI3) media interface, and the
PHY interfaces are Serializer/Deserializer (SerDes) with GBIC support, Gigabit Media Inde-
pendent Interface, (GMII) or Reduced GMII (RGMII) selected on a per-port basis.
Signals from the SPI-3 interface of the IXF1104 are routed to the MSF interface of the
IXP2400 on the baseboard through a 400-pin connector.
Quad Gigabit Ethernet Transceiver
The 88E1145 belongs to Marvell's Alaska™ Quad Family of single-chip devices that contain
four independent Gigabit Ethernet Transceivers on a single monolithic IC. Each transceiver
performs all the physical layer functions for the 100BASE-TX and 1000BASE-T full or half-
duplex Ethernet on CAT5 twisted pair cable, and 10BASE-T full or half-duplex Ethernet on
CAT 3,4 and 5 cable. Some of its features are given below:
•
10/100/1000BASE-T IEEE 802.3 compliant
•
Supports GMII, TBI, RGII, RTBI, and SGMII interfaces.
•
Integrated 1.25 GHz SERDES for 1000BASE-X fiber applications
•
CRC checker, packet counter
•
Packet generation
•
Software programmable LED modes
