General Safety Instructions
Lack of attention
WARNING
Responsibility when driving, e.g. choosing an appro-
priate speed, remains with the driver even if traffic
sign detection is being used. The system does not
replace the driver's attentiveness.
e Drive with extreme care.
e Always pay attention to the traffic situation and
the vehicle surroundings.
e Adjust driving speed to road conditions.

WARNING
tect traffic signs
The camera's view can be impaired by various influ-
encing factors (e.g. rain, snow, ice, heavy spray, on-
coming headlights, reflections, dirt, damage).
In some circumstances, the camera may not detect
traffic signs or may detect them incorrectly, which
will result in a speed limit or bend ahead warning not
being displayed or being displayed incorrectly. Traf-
fic signs always take precedence.
e Always pay attention to traffic signs.
e Drive with extreme care.
e Always keep your eyes on the road ahead.
e Clean the camera lens regularly and keep it free
of snow and ice.
e Do not cover the camera lens and check for
damage at regular intervals.

System limitations
The assistance provided by the system cannot be
guaranteed if traffic signs are covered or damaged.
Responding to warning symbols
Always heed any warning and information messages
displayed in the vehicle.
> Please see chapter "Warning and information
messages" on page 244.
Operating principle
Traffic sign detection (available in some countries)
detects speed restrictions, the start and end of no
overtaking zones and curve ahead signs. The traffic
signs are evaluated in conjunction with the camera
(A) and the map data stored in the navigation sys-
tem and displayed in the instrument cluster.
If a traffic sign is restricted to a certain time or spe-
cific weather conditions (e.g. fog or rain), the de-
tected sign is compared with the vehicle information
(e.g. rain sensor, navigation data and time) and dis-
played if relevant.
In countries where traffic sign detection is not
available, a message will appear in the instrument
cluster.

B Bend ahead warning
Up to three main traffic signs (A) including the curve
ahead warning (B) can be displayed on the instru-
ment cluster. The traffic sign with the highest prior-
ity is on the left.
The curve ahead warning (C) is displayed approx.
500 ft. (150 m) before a curve and remains dis-
played until the curve has been passed.
Speed limit display
The most recently valid speed limit appears in the
instrument cluster once the vehicle is switched on
and ready to drive. If no speed limit was detected or
