5. DESCRIPTION OF THE MACHINE AND ITS FUNCTIONS
The VGP Heat sealing machine is used for packing fresh and/or cured products in special trays in a modified atmosphere.
The operating principle is based on creation of a vacuum inside an aluminium chamber in which one or more trays con-
taining the product to be packed are placed by means of an anodized aluminium die, and the film that is stretched on
the surface of the containers seals the tray at the end of the operation.
The working consists of the following phases:when the required vacuum is obtained inside the chamber (up to a maximum
value of 100%) by extracting the air inside by means of a pump, the machine starts letting in a protective gas mixture
(usually carbon dioxide and nitrogen) to fill the vacuum in the chamber; this is followed by heat-sealing of the tray with
film by lowering a plate that is heated to the sealing temperature.
Together with sealing, the lowering of the plate also cuts the excess film.
To prevent pressing the product following removal of carbon dioxide with relative reduction of volume, the machine is
provided with an option for gas flushing at a pressure slightly higher than the atmospheric pressure.
Following devacuumation of the vacuum chamber at the end of the packing cycle, the machine lid opens to allow removal
of the sealed trays.
The machine basically consists of the following parts:
• A head consisting of the upper part of the vacuum chamber made of aluminium, provided with a closure device

during the gas flushing phase. The head also contains the hydraulic system

chamber to the pump, the gas cylinder (not included in the machine kit) and all parts for adjustment and/or control of
the system.

ctions are controlled by a microprocessor.
