It is best to use the Gastroback Premium Descaler (Art.- No.: 98175), containing spe-
cial additives for preserving the metal surfaces thus maintaining high performance of
our machines. Use 50 ml of the Gastroback Premium Descaler filled up to 1200 ml
with clear water. Alternatively, you may use plain vinegar (approx. 4% acetic acid).
Mix approx. 300 ml vinegar with 900 ml water.
WARNING
group head and steam wand. After descaling, always empty and rinse the drip
tray (see: 'Cleaning the Drip Tray'). Always ensure good ventilation during desca-
ling. Do not aspire the vapours of any type of descaling solution to avoid inju-
ries to your aspiration tract.
1. Switch off the appliance via the power button and unplug. Then clean the appli-
ance (see above). Prepare 1200 ml descaling solution.
2. Pull the water tank upwards and out of the appliance and empty the water tank.
Then fill the descaling solution into the water tank. Re-place the water tank (see:
'Operation / Filling the Water Tank').
3. Ensure that the drip tray is empty and inserted correctly. Place a heat-resistant
bowl of sufficient size (at least 300 ml) under the group head and direct the
steam wand into the bowl.
4. Plug in the power plug and switch on the appliance. Wait until the espresso
button illuminates.
5. Press the espresso button and wait until the appliance gave off approx
250 - 300 ml via the group head. Press the espresso button again to stop the
water flow. If required, empty the bowl and replace it. Wait until the espresso
indicator illuminates again.
6. Ensure that the steam wand is pointing into the bowl. Then turn the steam dial
counter-clockwise to the stop. Press the espresso button and let the appliance
give off 250 - 300 ml. Then press the espresso button again for stopping the
water flow. Turn the steam dial clockwise back to "0". If required, empty the
bowl and replace it. Wait until the espresso indicator illuminates again.
IMPORTANT - Do not allow the machine to completely empty the water tank to
avoid damage to the pump!
7. Repeat the steps 5 and 6 monitoring the filling level in the water tank. Termi-
nate the procedure, when the filling level dropped to approx 2 cm (1 inch).
