2.1 Application

According to DIN 4040 and EN 1825, the installation of grease
separators is required wherever oils and fats from animals
and plants are introduced into waster water systems. Un-
collected, oils and fats can cause serious damage to waste-
water piping and private / public waste water treatment
plants.
The KESSEL grease separator system is delivered ready for
operation.
Each tank is packed separately on a pallet. Set-up material
and accessories are included on the pallets, and can some-
times also be in the tanks. Examine the system for transport
damage before installation.
The grease separator for underground installation should
be installed outside the building as close to the drains as
possible. If necessary, the inlet connection pipes to the
grease separator should be routed heat-insulated or heated.
The necessary frost-free installation depth is achieved using
telescopic upper cover sections and adaptation to the inlet
and outlet pipe (sewer). The covers for the load classes A /
B , D are screwed odour-tight and correspond to DIN EN
124.
The following points must be heeded during installati-
on:
- The foundation soil must be horizontal and level to gua-
rantee the system's functional ability.
In addition, the foundation soil must have a sufficient load
bearing capacity. A layer of compacted 97% Dpr 0/16 gra-
vel 25 - 30 cm thick is required as a base. 10 cm 0/16
gritting material must be added to this.
- Set the tank(s) completely into the prepared gritting layer.
- Fill the tank(s) with water up to the level of the drain, and
check for any leaks.
If water escapes, check the screw connection first and tigh-
ten this if necessary. If this does not solve the problem,
make sure the profiled seal is fitted correctly, check for soi-
ling or damage and replace if necessary.
- The space at the side of the tank must be filled with 0/16
gravel. The individual layers should not exceed a height of
30 cm. A vibrator must be used for compaction.
- Once the system has been filled up to the inlet and outlet
level, connect the inlet and outlet pipes. Then continue fil-
ling.

2. General

2.2 Separator description

The KESSEL Euro Grease Separator Version G consist of a
grease separator with integrated sludge trap. The separator
is constructed from Polyethylene (PE). Due to the smooth,
wax like surface of the material Polyethylene, no additional
protective coating is necessary. The separator is designed to
be installed underground at a predetermined depth (below
the frost level) and with the selected load class manhole
cover (Class A, B or D).

3. Installation

- A stilling section of at least 1 m in length with a gradient of
at least 1:50 must be upstream from drainpipes on the
inlet side. The transition from the drainpipe to the stilling
section should be executed with two 45° bends.
This reduces
- The danger of siphons and odour traps being suctioned
dry
- Oxygen added, and thus odour development
- Foam formation in the separator
The last layer is filled up with 0/16 gravel and lightly com-
pacted 97% Dpr.
Put the upper cover section into the required position and
fix in place using a clamping ring. The fine adjustment to the
final height is carried out using the adjusting screws. Make
sure the inlets and outlets remain accessible for later clea-
ning purposes. If the upper cover section should project too
far into the tank, it must be sawn off accordingly.
Ground slopes up to max. 5° can be compensated by tilting
the upper cover section. In the case of the NS 4, the smaller
tank is set on feet to compensate the height difference.
Care must be taken in this case that the resulting cavity bet-
ween soil and tank bottom is filled up with soil and compac-
ted well 97% Dpr..
Leak test on the upper cover section:
Install the tank according to the installation instructions. Be-
fore the upper cover section is set in place or the concrete
layer is laid, the air-tightness of the upper cover sections
must be checked. To do this, fill the tank(s) with water up to
the upper edge of the upper cover section, and check for
any leaks.
