Removing and Installing a Fan Assembly

The FOX3 Matrix 80x has one replaceable fan assembly with three fans. If a fan fails, the fan
assembly should be replaced at the earliest opportunity.
NOTES:
Remove and replace a fan module as follows:

• The fan assemby is hot-swappable. It can be removed or installed without powering
down the switcher.
• The diagram shows the 40x frame, which is similar in function to the 80x frame.
Rotate the top and bottom captive panel screws to completely loosen the screws
(see figure 43).

Gently pull on the captive panel screws to loosen the fan from the backplane.
Slide the fan out of the chassis.
Align the flanges on the replacement fan with the top and bottom fan guides (see
figure 43).
Gently slide the replacement fan into the enclosure until the fan meets resistance.
Gently seat the replacement fan into the backplane.
Use a screwdriver to tighten the top and bottom captive panel screws to secure the
replacement fan in place.
