ONNECTING TO THE
This chapter describes how to connect each of the ports to network
devices.
Each of the OC-3c/STM-1 and OC-12c/STM-4 ports are available in
single-mode or multi-mode. Single-mode ports support single-mode
cables, and multi-mode ports support multi-mode cables. Single-mode or
multi-mode OC-3c/STM-1 or OC-12c/STM-4 ports are connected with
fiber-optic cables. UTP5 ports are connected with UTP5 (category 5)
cables.
For more information on single and multi-mode ports, see the
CoreBuilder
®
9000 ATM Interface Module User Guide.
To connect the appropriate cable to the port:
1 Remove the protective plug from the port that you want to use.
2 Hold the cable in the vertical position in an 8-slot chassis or a 16-slot
chassis or in the horizontal position in a 7-slot chassis.
3 Make sure the stopper that is located on the end of the cable is facing to
the left in an 8-slot chassis or a 16-slot chassis or to the top in a 7-slot
chassis.
4 Insert the cable into the port.
