Installing a ServeRAID SAS controller in the SAS riser-card

The following procedure is for a Tier 1 customer replaceable unit (CRU).
Replacement of Tier 1 CRUs is your responsibility. If IBM installs a Tier 1 CRU at
your request, you will be charged for the installation. Service agreements can be
purchased so that you can ask IBM to replace these units.
Note: Before running a procedure, refer to "Removing a file module to perform a
maintenance action" on page 51.
To install a SAS controller on the SAS riser card, complete the following procedure.

9. If you are replacing the SAS controller card, remove the battery, but keep the
cables connected.

1. To help you work safely with Storwize V7000 Unified file modules, read the
safety information in "Safety" on page xi, "Safety statements" on page xiii,
and "Installation guidelines" on page 54.
2. Touch the static-protective package that contains the new ServeRAID SAS
controller to any unpainted metal surface on the file module. Then, remove
the ServeRAID SAS controller from the package.
3. If you are replacing a SAS controller that uses a battery, continue to use that
battery with the new SAS controller.
4. Turn the SAS controller so that the keys on the bottom edge align correctly
with the connector on the SAS riser card in the SAS controller assembly.
5. Firmly press the SAS controller horizontally into the connector on the SAS
riser card.
6. Install the SAS riser card and controller assembly, as described in "Installing
the SAS riser card and controller assembly" on page 113.
7. Install the cover, as described in "Installing the cover" on page 84.
