5 Diagnosis: Accommodation Quotient

The
threshold,
i.e. of the intensities with square pulses (1000 or 500 ms) and triangle
pulses (1000 or 500 ms) necessary to trigger a minimal contraction. It informs about
the accommodation ability of the examined nerve-muscle unit and thus about its
degree of damage.

Procedure
(1) Plug the foot switch into the rear panel of the device.
(2) Attach the electrodes to the respective stimulation points (bipolar or unipolar
mode of attachment).
(3) Select the menu
(4) Select the desired pulse time T (1000 or 500 ms).
(5) Turn up the intensity control <6> as far as possible (to the right).
(6) Slowly turn up the intensity with the foot switch
achieved. Watch for the pauses between the pulses. An acoustic signal will be
issued with each pulse, so that you are able to hear each pulse.
(7) As soon as the muscle shows a reaction, press the foot switch
confirm the intensity value.
(8) The achieved intensity is saved automatically, e. g. Rheobase (RIC) 3.1.
(9) The device automatically switches to triangular pulse-shape to determine the
galvano-tetanus-threshold. You will recognize a triangular pulse as the acoustic
signal is now of a higher pitch.
Note You will be able to overwrite the stored values and change the pulse-
shape if you press the foot switch with the intensity set to 0. Pressing
the button
(10) Slowly turn up the intensity with the foot switch again until muscle reaction is
achieved.
(11) Press the button
