Recommended Cache Memory Capacity
To use the functions described below, installing 16GB (8GB per CM) of cache memory in the ETERNUS DX500 S4/
DX500 S3 or installing 32GB (16GB per CM) of cache memory in the ETERNUS DX600 S4/DX600 S3 is recommen-
ded in addition to the capacity described in
Data encryption (Volume Conversion Encryption)
Advanced Copy (local copy)
Advanced Copy (remote copy) (*1)
Storage Cluster
Thin Provisioning
Non-disruptive Storage Migration
VMware VVOL
*1: The recommended cache memory capacity if the REC Buffer setting is not performed. If the REC Buffer set-
ting is performed, the installation of additional cache memory is recommended. Because the REC Buffer is
duplicated between controllers, the cache memory capacity must be double the specified REC Buffer ca-
pacity.

Memory Extension

Memory Extension is required to use the Deduplication/Compression function or the Unified License.
Memory Extension cannot be installed if the Deduplication/Compression function or the Unified kit/Unified Li-
cense (NAS function) is not used.
Only one Memory Extension can be installed for each ETERNUS DX.
Select an appropriate Memory Extension according to the cache memory capacity used for the SAN environment.
