5.7.
Bypassing
A bypass valve system has to be installed on all water conditioning systems. Bypass valves isolate the
softener from the water system and allow unconditioned water to be used. Service or routine
maintenance procedures may also require the system to be bypassed.
Caution
Do not solder pipes with lead-based solder.
Caution
Do not use tools to tighten plastic fittings. Over time, stress may break the connections.
Caution
Do not use petroleum grease on gaskets when connecting bypass plumbing. Use only 100%
silicone grease products when installing any plastic valves. Non-silicone grease may cause
plastic components to fail over time.
Note
Always provide a bypass valve for the installation, if the unit is not equipped with one.
Note
Depending on the system configuration, several types of bypass are possible.
5.7.1. Manual Bypass
The manual bypass is used simply to disconnect valve or the entire water treatment system without
causing a break in the supply of water. During service it provides a perfect seal between inlet and
outlet to prevent mixing between raw water and treated water.
