5.6 Operational checks

DANGER
Components are moving or rotating.
Risk of crushing, danger of parts of the body being caught or pulled in!
• Operate the engine at low load only. Keep clear of the danger zone of the engine.
WARNING
High level of engine noise when the engine is running.
Risk of damage to hearing!
• Wear ear protectors.

Task
Check engine visually for leaks and general condition; Check air pipework be-
tween air filter and exhaust turbocharger for leaks and damage.
Check for abnormal running noise, vibration, and exhaust color (→ Page 132).
Check signal ring position of service indicator (→ Page 295).
Replace air filter (→ Page 293), if the signal ring is completely visible in the
service indicator control window.
Check relief bores for fuel discharge (→ Page 255).
Check relief bore for oil and coolant discharge and obstructions
(→ Page 320).
Check reading on differential pressure gage (→ Page 268);
Drain water and contaminants (→ Page 269).
Check relief bore for oil and coolant discharge and obstructions
(→ Page 328).
Check relief bore for oil and coolant discharge and obstructions
(→ Page 331).
