8.15 Oil Filtration / Cooling

8.15.1 Engine oil filter – Replacement

Filter wrench
Engine oil
Oil filter
DANGER
Components are moving or rotating.
Risk of crushing, danger of parts of the body being caught or pulled in!
• Operate the engine at low load only. Keep clear of the danger zone of the engine.
WARNING
High level of engine noise when the engine is running.
Risk of damage to hearing!
• Wear ear protectors.
WARNING
Oil is hot.
Oil can contain residue/substances which are harmful to health.
Risk of injury and poisoning!
• Allow the product to cool to below 50 °C before beginning work.
• Wear protective clothing, protective gloves and goggles/safety mask.
• Avoid contact with skin.
• Do not inhale oil vapor.
NOTICE
Damage to component!
Severe material damage!
• For filter replacement with the engine running, operate the engine at low engine load.
• The filter which is to be replaced must be cut out for a brief period only.
Engine oil filter – Replacement
1.
Stop engine (→ Page 126) and disable engine
start.
2.
Unscrew engine oil filter using filter wrench.
3.
Clean sealing surface on connecting piece.
4.
Check condition of the new engine oil filter
sealing ring and coat it with engine oil.
5.
Fit SOLAS shield (→ Page 25).
6.
Screw on engine oil filter and tighten by
hand.
7.
Replace other engine oil filters in the same
way.
8.
Crank engine on starting system after every
engine oil change and filter replacement
(→ Page 240).
9.
Check engine oil level (→ Page 297).
