8.5.2 Valve clearance – Check and adjustment
Preconditions
☑ Engine is stopped and starting disabled.
☑ Engine coolant temperature is max. 40 °C.
☑ Valves are closed.

Feeler gage
Valve setting gage
Torque wrench, 60–320 Nm
Socket wrench, 24 mm
Engine oil
Preparatory steps
1. Remove cylinder head covers (→ Page 252).
2. Install barring device (→ Page 238).
Note: The pointer (1) is in the lower opening of the
flywheel housing (arrow).
3. Use barring device to turn crankshaft in en-
gine direction of rotation until marking
OT/A1 on the rear side of the flywheel and
pointer (1) are aligned.
