Coolants

The co o la n t is a m ixtu re o f w ater
and a n ti-co rro sio n /a n tifre e ze . In
p ro d u c tio n , the co o lin g system is
fille d w ith an a n ti-c o rro s io n /a n ti-
freeze-w ater m ix tu re o ffe rin g
p ro te ctio n to app ro x. - 3 0 ° Cl
- 2 2 ° F. The red m ark on the te m p ­
erature gauge in the in s tru m e n t
cluster is m atched to th is a n ti-co r-
rosion/a ntifre eze -w ate r m ixtu re (ap­
prox. b o ilin g p o in t 125° C/257° F).
The p ro te ctio n a g ainst c o rro s io n is
also ensured by th is m ixtu re m aking
it unnecessary to add a co rro sio n
in h ib ito r.
The c o o la n t rem ains in the c o o lin g
system all year long and m ust be
renewed after 3 years at the latest.
If co o la nt is lost, replace m issing
q u a n tity w ith w ate r (potable w ater
q uality) plus a n ti-c o rro s io n /a n ti-
freeze o f a recom m ended brand.
For reasons o f c o rro sio n in h ib itio n
the m inim u m p ro p o rtio n o f a n ti-c o r­
rosion/antifreeze m ust be 34%,
w hich gives a n ti-c o rro s io n /a n ti­
freeze p ro te c tio n dow n to
- 20° Cl - 4° F.
If a n ti-co rro s io n /a n tifre e z e is te m ­
p o ra rily not available, add a c o rro ­
sion in h ib ito r to th e co o lin g w ate r
to ensure p ro p e r p ro te c tio n against
co rro s io n . To tre at the c o o lin g w a­
ter, do not use m ore than 1% (10
cm 3/l) o f a re com m ended c o rro sio n
in h ib ito r.
W ith o u t a n ti-c o rro s io n /a n tifre e ze
in the c o o lin g system , th e w ater
already starts b o ilin g at approx.
118° C/2240 F, w h ich m eans th a t the
p o in te r o f the te m p e ra tu re gauge in
the in s tru m e n t c lu s te r may s till be
below the red mark.
D rivin g the ve h icle w ith o u t a n ti-co r-
ro sio n /a ntifre e ze sh o u ld be done
o n ly in an em e rgency situ a tio n . Add
a n ti-c o rro s io n /a n tifre e z e as soon as
possible.
A n ti-c o rro s io n /a n tifre e z e
Y o u r v e h icle co n ta in s a n um b e r of
a lu m in iu m parts. The use of
a lu m in iu m c o m p o n e n ts in m o to r
ve h icle en g ines necessitates th a t
a n ti-c o rro s io n /a n tifre e z e /c o o la n t
used in such engines be sp e c ific a lly
fo rm u la te d to p ro te c t the a lu m in iu m
parts. (F ailure to use such a n ti-c o r­
ro s io n /a n tifre e ze /co o la n t may result
in a s ig n ific a n tly shorten ed service
life.)

a vailable w h ich w ill provide the
re q u isite p ro te c tio n , all such p ro ­
d u cts have not been tested fo r
MERCEDES-BENZ vehicles. The fo l­
lo w in g p ro d u ct, how ever, is reco m ­
m ended fo r use in y o u r car:
