Checking Coolant Level

The c o o la n t level can be checked
visu a lly at the tra n sp a re n t c o o la nt
reservoir.
To ch e c k the c o o la n t level, the v e h i­
cle m ust be parked on level gro u nd.
The co o la n t level m ust reach:
The m a rkin g (2, arrow ) on the reser­
v o ir w hen the eng ine is cold.
A p p ro x. 1 cm /0.4 in h ig h e r w hen the
e n g in e is at o p e ra tin g tem pe ratu re .

Adding Coolant

If a sm all a m o u n t o f co o la n t has to
be added (due to eva p o ra tio n o f w a­
ter), p la in w a te r can be used.
If a la rg e r q u a n tity o f c o o la n t has to
be added, a 50/50 m ixtu re o f w ater
and a n ti-c o rro s io n /a n tifre e z e
s h o u ld be used.
W a rn ing :
Do n o t rem ove pressure cap on
c o o la n t rese rvoir if eng ine tem p e ra ­
tu re is above 90° C/194° F. A llo w en­
gin e to co o l dow n before rem oving
cap. The c o o la n t re servoir co ntains
h o t w a te r and is und e r pressure.
U sing a rag, tu rn cap to firs t notch
to relieve excess pressure. If
opened im m ediately, h o t scalding
flu id and steam w ill be b low n out
u nd e r pressure.
The dra in p lu g s fo r th e c o o lin g sys­
tem are located on the rig h t-ha nd
side o f the en g ine b lo c k and the
b o tto m o f the radiator.
