W heels, Tires

In case o f repla ce m e n t we re co m ­
mend you use tire s and rim s of
id e n tical design, version and brand.
See any MERCEDES-BENZ service

They w ill also o ffe r m ore advice
c o n c e rn in g tire service and
purchase
F ront tire s sh o uld be replaced in
sets. If possible, the spare tire
sh o u ld be used on the rear wheels.
We recom m end th a t you break in
new tire s fo r a p p ro x im a te ly
100 km/60 m iles at m oderate speed.
A fte r a w heel change, it is im p e rtive
th a t the wheel m o u n tin g b o lts

800 km/500 miles. On new vehicles

tig h te n in g is also necessary when
new w heels are fitte d at a later date,
e.g. w hen th e spare w heel is used
fo r the firs t tim e o r w hen a new set
o f w h e e ls w ith M + S tire s is fitte d .

R o ta tin g w heels:
The w heels can be rotated a c c o rd ­
ing to the degree o f tire w ear w h ile
re ta in in g the sam e sense o f ro ta ­
tio n . R o tating, how ever, sh o u ld be
ca rrie d o u t be fore the c h a ra c te ris tic
tire w ear patte rn (s h o u ld e r w ear on
fro n t w heels and tread ce n te r w ear
on rear w heels) becom es visib le at a
m ileage o f 5 0 0 0 -1 0 0 0 0 km/
3 0 0 0 -6 0 0 0 m iles as o th e rw ise the
d riv in g p ro p e rtie s deteriorate.
S lo w ly leaking a ir (e.g. due to a nail
in the tire ) may cause dam age to
the tire such as tread separation.
R egular tire pressure ch e cks at in­
tervals o f no m ore than 14 days are
th e re fo re essential. For the tire
pressure checks, keep in m ind that
h o t tire s show h ig h e r pressure than
c o ld tires. See tire pressure ch art
on last page.
S h ou ld the tire pressure decrease
co n sta n tly, che ck w h e th e r fo re ig n
o b je cts have p en etrated the tire or if
rim o r valve a llo w the a ir to leak.
T h o ro u g h ly clean the in n e r side of
the w heels any tim e you rotate the
w heels o r w ash ve h icle underside.
Dented o r b ent rim s cause tire
pressure loss and dam age to the
tire beads. For th is reason, check
rim s fo r dam age at re g u la r intervals.
The rim fla n g e s m ust be checked
fo r w e a r b e fo re a tire is m ounted.
Remove b urrs, if there are any.
