on the brake system sh o u ld be car­
ried o u t by a MERCEDES-BENZ
dealer.
If the pa rkin g brake is released and
th e brake w a rn in g lam p in the in ­
s tru m e n t c lu ste r stays on, the brake
flu id level in the reservoir is to o low.
B rake pad w ear o r a leak in the
system may be the reason fo r low
brake flu id in the reservoir.
Have th e brake system inspected at
a MERCEDES-BENZ service station
w ith o u t delay.
Install only brake pads re co m m e n d­
ed by us.
If o th e r than recom m ended brake
pads are installed, th e b rakin g p ro ­
p erties o f th e ve h icle can be a f­
fected to an e xte n t th a t the safety is
su b s ta n tia lly im paired.
Driving Hints During the W inter
Season
The m ost im p o rta n t rule fo r slippe ry
o r icy roads is to drive sensib ly and
to avoid a b ru p t a cceleration, b ra k ­
ing and steering action. Do n o t use
the cru ise c o n tro l system un der
such c o n d itio n s .
W hen the ve h icle is in dan ger of
skid d in g , d e clu tc h o r - in case o f an
a u to m a tic tra n sm is sio n - m ove
se le c to r lever to p o s itio n " N". Try to
keep the v eh icle und e r c o n tro l by
m eans o f c o rre ctive steering action.
P rovided th e tra ffic c o n d itio n s w ill
allow , o n ly brake in a way th a t the
w heels are locked fo r no m ore than
fra c tio n s o f a second as o therw ise
the s te e ra b ility o f the vehicle is lost.
Road salts and chem icals can ad­
versely a ffe ct brakin g efficie ncy.
Increased pedal fo rc e may becom e
necessary to p ro d u c e the norm al
brake effect. We th e re fo re recom ­
m end depressing the brake pedal
repeatedly w hen tra v e llin g on salt-
strew n roads at length. T his can
brin g road salt im paired braking e f­
fic ie n c y back to norm al. A prere­
q u isite is, how ever, th a t th is is poss­
ible w ith o u t en dan g e rin g o th e r d riv ­
ers on the road.
If the v e hicle is parked a fter being
driven on salt treate d roads, the
bra kin g e ffic ie n c y sh o u ld be tested
as soon as possible a fte r d riving is
resum ed w hile ad he rin g to the safe­
ty requirem ents.
