8. Engraving Motor - The engraving motor or "spindle motor", is the large motor under the Carriage
Assembly. The engraving motor drives a belt and pulley system, which turns the engraving cutter
during the engraving process.
9. X-Axis Leadscrew - This is the threaded rod located in the middle of the Gantry. Driven by the
stepper motor, the lead screws rotate and causes the Carriage to move along the rails in the X-Axis
direction.
10. Z-Axis Stepper Motor - The small motor under the carriage cover that provides the spindle up and
down motion of the spindle during the engraving process.
11. Micrometer - The Micrometer allows the user to set the depth of engraving when using the nose
cone to "ride" the surface of the material. Turning the Micrometer one click to the right
(countrerclockwise when viewed from the top of the spindle) increases the engraving depth by 0.001
inches.
12. Spindle Block - Houses the spindle assembly.
13. Spindle - The spindle moves up and down along a linear bearing and attaches to the face of the
carriage assembly. It rotates the cutting tool when rotary engraving, or holds a non-rotating cutting
tool for diamond drag engraving.
14. Drive Belt - The Drive Belt connects the Engraving Motor to the Spindle via the motor and spindle
pulleys.
15. Proximity Switch - The Proximity Switch, or "prox sensor", detects the up and down position of the
Spindle. When the Spindle is moved down and the nose cone contacts material, the prox sensor
stops the Z-Axis motor from driving the Spindle down further. The sensor, in effect, automatically
detects the top surface of the material to be engraved.
16. Pressure Adjustment Knob - By turning this knob clockwise, the user can increase the pressure
applied by the Spindle on to the material. When diamond drag engraving, increased pressure will
