Tension Adiustment
the engine until the specified
belt
tension is obtained. Remove
the
gauge. Tighten the alternator ad-
justing bracket bolt; then tighten the
alternator mounting bolts. Imtall the
tension gauge and check the belt
tension.
4. On cars equipped with air
conditioning, remove the bolts se"
curing the compressor to the support
bracket that
is
attached
to
the cyl-
inder head.
Loosen the bolts sccurmg the com-
pressor to the compressor mounting
bracket.
Install the tension gauge on the
compressor clutch drive belt. Move
the compressor toward or away from
the engine until the specified belt
tension
is
obtained.
Remove the
gauge. Tighten the compressor to
support bracket
holts.
l nstall
the
tension gauge and check the belt
tension.
5. New he1t(s): Run
the engine
for
10
minutes, then check the ten-
sion of the belts to make certain
that they are \Vithin the reset speci-
fications. Adjust the belts, if re-
quired.
6. Install
the
alternator
splash
shield.
CLEAN POSITIVE CRANKCASE
VENTILATION SYSTEM
The positive crankcase ventilation
components are shown in Fig.
4.
REMOVAL
1. Remove the atr cleaner.
2. Loosen the clamp securing the
hose to the regu Ia tor \:dve. Remove
the hose and clamp. Remove the
regulator
valve from
;Jw
ventilation
tube fitting.
3. Loosen the damps securing the
hose to the ventilation tube and car-
huretor spacer. Remove the hose and
clamps.
4. Loosen
the
ventilation
tube
hracket retaining nuts and washers,
then slide the ventilation tube out.
5. Remove
the
retammg
bolts
"ecuring the outlet adapter to the
valve push rod chamber cover. Re-
move the outlet adapter gasket and
l~il
separator element.
CLEANING
Clean the valve, element, tube and
,)utlet adapter in clean carburetor sol-
. ent and dry them with compressed
nr.
Clean the rubber hose connec-
; wns with a low-volatility, petro-
~:um-hasc
solvent and dry them with
.omprcssed air.
INSTALLATION
1. Install the oil separator element
m
the valve push rod chamber cover.

the
edges of the

2. Coat a new outlet adapter gas-
Ket with oil-resistant sealer and posi-

ion it on the push rod chamber
, _ over. Position the outlet adapter on

he cover and install the retaining
holts.
3. Slide the ventilation tube brack-
ets
under the retaining washers and
nuts. Tighten the nuts. Install the
-egulator valve in the ventilation
rube fitting.
4. Install the hose and clamp on
the outlet adapter and regulator
. alve. Position and tighten the clamp.
5. Install the hose and clamps
on
ihe carburetor spacer and ventilation
'ube.
6. 1 nstall the air cleaner.

REGULATOR VALVE
REMOVAL
1. Remove the air cleaner.
2. Loosen the clamp securing the
hose to the regulator valve. Remove
the hose and clamp. Remove the
regulator valve from the ventilation
tube fitting.
3. Clean the valve in clean car-
buretor solvent and dry it with com-
pressed air.
4. Install the regulator valve in
the ventilation tube fitting.
5. Install the hose and clamp on
the regulator valve. Position and
tighten the damp.
6. lnstall the air cleaner.
CHECK AND ADJUST
IGNITION TIMING
TIMING MARK LOCATIONS
The crankshaft damper (Fig.
5)
has 15 timing marks ranging from
top dead center (TDC) to
30°
be-
fore top dead center (BTDC). Refer
to specifications for the correct igni-
tion timing.

TIMING
1.
Disconnect the vacuum line. If
necessary, clean and mark the de-
sired timing mark (Fig.
5).
2.
Attach a timing light to the
number one
spark plug.
3. Connect
a
tachometer to the
engine.

When connecting a tach-
ometer to a car equipped with
