DIMMs

The memory board contains twelve DIMM sockets arranged in three groups of
4-way interleaved memory. See Figure 4-14. Each 168-pin socket can hold a
single 72-bit DIMM module with 256MB, 512MB, 1GB or 2GB of memory.
When all twelve sockets are populated, the memory board supports a maximum
of 24GB of memory with 2GB DIMMs. DIMMs must be identical within a
group on the memory board.
Note:
installed in multiples of four. Group 1 DIMMs are installed in
the system. When adding DIMMs, install DIMMs into Group
2, then Group 3. When removing DIMMs, remove DIMMs in
Group 3 first, followed by Group 2, and lastly Group 1.

The first group of DIMMs are installed in DIMM slots 1, 2, 3 and 4 (see Figure
4-14, Group #1). When you install additional DIMMs, you must start with
Group #2 and continue to Group #3. When you remove DIMMs; you must start
with the highest populated group of DIMMs.
The following subsections describe the procedures for adding and removing
memory DIMMs to your system.
4-20 Upgrading Your System
DIMMs are grouped into four and must be
Group #1 DIMM sockets (DIMM slots 1, 2, 3, 4)
Group #2 DIMM sockets (DIMM slots 5, 6, 7, 8)
Group #3 DIMM sockets (DIMM slots 9, 10, 11, 12)
