Removing a Hot-Plug PCI Add-In Board

To remove a hot-plug PCI add-in board:
1. Observe the safety and ESD precautions listed at the beginning of this
chapter.
Note:
terminate the driver of the slot containing the PCI board.
Failure to do so may cause the system to fail.
2. Terminate the device driver used by the Hot-plug PCI board you want to
remove.
a. Open the Control Panel and click on [Add/Remove Hardware]. The
Add/Remove Hardware Wizard starts.
b. Click on [Next].
c. Select [Unplug/Eject a device] for the removal task, then click on [Next].
d. Select the target device, then click on [Next].
e. Confirm that the driver is used by the device you want to remove, then
click on [Next]. The [Add/Remove Wizard] terminates.
f. Click on [Finish].
3. Remove the rear access cover following procedures previously described in
this chapter.
4. Disconnect all cables from the PCI board.
5. Release the latches on the front and rear retention mechanisms.
6. Grasp the board by the top edge or corners, carefully pull it out of the
connector, and slide it free of the retention bracket.
7. If you are installing a new board, follow the instructions described in the last
procedure. If you are not installing another PCI add-in board, continue with
the next step below.
8. Install a slot cover over the vacant slot in the back panel.
9. Install the rear access cover.
