This chapter explains how to

Before calling Service, print a test label. The label contains inform ation to help diagnose
m echanical and setup problems .
This chapter also provides explanations of the printer's errors. The errors are clas sified by type
and are listed in order. To load s upplies or perform m aintenance, refer to the Operator's
Handbook. See Chapter 7, "Status Polling," for inform ation on reques ting printer and job status.
Som e errors numbered 400-438 and 500-574 are internal software errors. Errors numbered 703-
758 are supply errors . Follow the direc tions provided with the error des cription to c orrec t the
problem. Errors num bered 900-999 are Hard Printer Failures. If an error cannot be cleared, turn
off the printer, wait several s ec onds and then turn on the printer. Call Technical Support when
receiving any error m ess age not lis ted in this c hapter.
To clear an error, correct the problem (load s upply, etc.) and press ENT ER to reprint/c ontinue. If
a formatting error occ urs, the label prints; but data may be m iss ing. Correct the format or batc h
and resend them to the printer.

The Printer Info label s hows the m odel number, software version, total num ber of inches printed,
voltage, print c ontrast, printhead res is tance, number of bad dots, and ins talled options (see the
following table). The test label s hows an inc h c ount for the high energy ribbon. The one-dot rule
line at the bottom of the test label indicates the vertic al 0,0 point.
The MPCL label shows the printer's c onfiguration by packet (A-Y). See Chapter 2, "Configuring
the Printer" for more inform ation. The lines beginning with M show the printers m emory
allocation, which can be c hanged. The units for s upply pos ition, etc. are displayed in dots, even
if entered in English or Metric units.
