To use the batch quantity z ero m ethod:
1. Send the format and a batc h header in one file. The first time the batch header is sent, use
the parameter N (new batc h), and the parameter 0 for (zero quantity). This ens ures the label
is properly positioned.
The printer im ages cons tant text, line, and box fields, but does not print them.
2. Input data for each field, and send it with a batch header using the parameter U (batch
update) and a quantity of z ero. W hen the printer receives the data, it im mediately im ages the
field, but does not print it.
At this time, the printer is im aging all as sociated fields , including fields that copy from
other fields.
3. Repeat step 2 for eac h field except the las t one.
4. For the last field, input data and s end a batc h header with the quantity of labels to print. W hen
the printer receives input for the last field, it immediately prints the labels. See

The optional entry method is a quick way to modify format fields, c hec k digit fields and
configuration pac kets .
Optional Entry Method
This method resets only the param eters that change. Com mas act as plac eholders for unc hanged
parameters. The optional entry method reduces file siz e and increas es the speed at which files
are s ent to the printer.

If downloading from a Com mand prompt, create batch files to set com munication values and
download formats. It is a good idea to c reate a s ubdirectory to hold the format files.
Here is a batch file that s ets a s erial port, c hanges to a s ubdirectory, and downloads a check
digit file, format file, and batch data file.
