This manual provides the necess ary information to design, write and print a
Monarc h® Printer Control Language II (MPCLII) form at on the Avery Dennis on® Monarch®
Tabletop Printer 2 (ADTP2). Review the printer information in the Operator's Handbook and
System Administrator's Guide. This m anual als o includes bas ic information for the Avery
Dennison® Monarc h® EcoCut™ Tabletop Printer 2. For detailed inform ation about the EcoCut
printer, refer to the Ec oCut Operating Instructions on our W eb site.

You do not need to be a program mer to us e this manual, but you must be fam iliar with creating
text files and using bas ic c om mands. This chapter desc ribes how to

B e f o r e Y o u B e g i n
1. Connect the printer to the hos t. Refer to the Sy stem Administrator's Guide for more
information.
2. Load supplies in the printer. Refer to the Operator's Handbook for more information.
3. Turn on the printer.
4. Set the communic ation param eters and configure the printer. The com munication param eters
at the printer must matc h thos e at the host. See Chapter 2,
information.

6. Download the format to the printer. See Chapter 6, "Printing," for m ore inform ation.
C r e a t i n g a n M P C L I I F o r m a t P a c k e t
A format defines whic h fields appear and where the fields are printed on the label. The printer
requires this inform ation in a special form , using Monarc h® Printer Control Language II (MPCL).
This section describes how to c reate a sample MPCLII format packet.
MPCLII formats designed for another MPCLII printer such as the 9855® or 9825® printer can be
printed on this printer.

1. Type the following format header in any text editor:
