9. Wheel sections installed at angles greater than 30 de-
grees from vertical will require seal adjustment
(Fig. 165). Adjust the diameter seals to avoid exces-
sive wheel drag. A final check of seal adjustment is
recommended for all designs.

ADJUSTING AIR SEALS — Four
seals are provided on each cassette to minimize air transfer
between the counterflowing airstreams.
To adjust diameter seals:
1. Loosen the diameter seal adjusting screws and back
seals away from wheel surface (Fig. 165).
2. Rotate the wheel clockwise until two opposing spokes
are hidden behind the bearing support beam.

3. Using a folded piece of paper as a feeler gage, position
the paper between the wheel surface and the diameter
seals.
4. Adjust the seals towards the wheel surface until a
slight friction on the feeler gage (paper) is detected
when the gage is moved along the length of the spoke.
5. Retighten the adjusting screws and recheck clearance
with the feeler gage.
