TROUBLESHOOTING

Check for continuity between the oil level switch
terminal and cylinder barrel.
No continuity
Check for engine wire harness connecting the
combination switch and the ignition coil for continuity.

ENGINE WIRE HARNESS
Continuity
Check for continuity between the EXT (+) wire (Red)
and EXT (–) wire (Black) with the combination switch
in the ON position (page 11-6).
Continuity
Remove the air cleaner elbow
that the choke valve is closed when turning the starter
motor or pulling the recoil starter.
Normal
Replace the ignition coil (page

Check the valve clearance
perform the cylinder compression test
If the cylinder compression is too low, perform a leak
down test.
If there is no air leakage in the engine, check the
following:
–Valve spring free length
–Valve seat width
–Valve face irregularly worn
–Decompressor operation
–Piston ring side clearance
–Piston ring width
–Piston ring end gap
–Piston skirt O.D.
–Cylinder sleeve I.D.
Continuity
Replace the oil level switch
No continuity
Replace the engine wire harness
No continuity
Replace the combination switch
Abnormal
Check the control gear box and ECM
