130 Configuring a 2350 Switch for a Branch Office
Network Requirements
The 2350 requires the following network components. Your branch office LAN most likely has most or all of these
components already.
•
NTP server, to provide date and time information to the 2350
•
DNS server, to resolve hostnames into IP addresses
•
TFTP server, to install software upgrades. A TFTP server might also be required to install security certificates.
•
Access router, to provide users access to the Internet and to resources at the corporate office. To enable the 2350 to
tunnel to the corporate office, VPN must be available on the access router.
Optionally, you can use a DHCP server to give the switch its IP address. This chapter shows how to configure the
address statically.
You do not need a DHCP server to give APs their IP addresses. The switch actually assigns IP addresses to the APs.
Installing the 2350 Switch
To install the 2350 and AP access points:
1
Install the APs.
(See Installing a Nortel Model 2330 Access Point.)
2
Place the switch on a tabletop.
3
Plug the power supply into an AC power source.
4
Plug the power supply into the Power port.
The LED turns green when the 2350 is receiving power.
5
Attach the 2350 to the network by plugging a 10/100 Ethernet cable into port 1 (PoE).
6
If you are connecting an AP directly to the 2350, attach the AP to the 2350 by plugging the Ethernet cable
attached to the AP into port 2 (Uplink).
Software Configuration Parameters
During configuration of the 2350 switch, you will be required to supply values to the switch for some parameters.
Table 11 on page 131
lists the parameters. For convenience, the table also provides space to write down the values you
