Requirements for AP Access Points

Cat 5 Ethernet cable—APs must have a wired connection to the 2350, either directly or through the
network.
Power—The 2350 can provide Power over Ethernet (PoE) to one AP. If you plan to install more APs or
you cannot attach the AP directly to the 2350, you will need another power source, such as a power
injector or a third-party switch.
Location—Wireless traffic is sent and received using high-frequency radio waves. Radio frequency (RF)
obstacles such as walls, doors, metal shelves, and so on cause attenuation of the radio signals, weakening
the signals.
For optimal results, Nortel recommends choosing an installation location that has a minimum
of RF obstacles between the AP and the likely locations of wireless users. Nortel also
recommends installing the AP on a wall or ceiling, high enough to be above obstacles such as
desks and file cabinets.
For advanced wireless planning, you can use WLAN Management Software , a full-featured
graphical user interface (GUI) client application used to plan, configure, and deploy a WLAN
and its users.
