Replacing a Hot-pluggable CPU/System
Fan
The server is equipped with a CPU fan unit (one hot-plug CPU fan for each
CPU) and four system fans.
V
CAUTION!
The actions described in this section may only be performed by
personnel with the appropriate technical training. (The device can be
seriously damaged if it is opened without authorization or if repairs are
attempted by untrained personnel.)
Please observe the safety information in
on page
19.
In order to replace a defective fan, the left side cover (floorstand model)
or the housing cover (rack model) must be removed as the fans are not
directly accessible (see
page
107).
The four system fans work in redundant mode, which means that a defective fan
can be replaced at the next scheduled service. A defective CPU fan must be
replaced immediately.
The failure of a fan is indicated by the global error display on the front and rear
of the server (lights orange).
The fan that has failed is indicated on the fan itself. The indicators are not visible
unless the housing is open.
Ê Remove the left side cover (floorstand model) or the housing cover (rack
model) (see
section "Opening/Closing the Housing" on page
V
CAUTION!
The side/housing cover must be reinstalled as soon as possible due to
cooling, to comply with applicable EMC regulations (regulations on
electromagnetic compatibility) and to protect against fire. The housing
must not be left uncovered for more than 60 minutes.
