2.3 Documents for Scanning

Paper Size

The following paper sizes can be scanned:
ADF
 Maximum size (width × length)
- 304.8 × 431.8 mm/12.0 × 17.0 in.
(A3 portrait (297 × 420 mm/11.7 × 16.5 in.)
- Long Page (*1)
(304.8 × 863 mm/12.0 × 34.0 in.,
304.8 × 5,588 mm/12.0 × 220.0 in.,
304.8 mm × 200 m/12.0 in. × 218.8 yd.)
 Minimum size (width × length)
50.8 × 69 mm/2.0 × 2.72 in.
Flatbed
 Maximum size (width × length)
304.8 × 457.2 mm/12.0 × 18.0 in.
*1: Depending on the application or the scan settings for the scanner
driver, there may be insufficient memory to perform scanning.
Long page scanning supports documents with a length of up to 5,588
mm (220 in.) when the resolution is set to 200 dpi or less.
If you scan a long page document and split the scanned image into
multiple pages, a document of up to 200 m (218.8 yd.) can be scanned.

Paper Type

The following paper types are recommended:
 Wood-free paper
 Wood-containing paper
 PPC paper (recycled)
 Plastic card
When using paper types other than the above, make sure you test with
the same type of paper first to check if the document can be scanned.
Paper Weight (Thickness)
Documents with the following paper weights can be scanned:

 20 to 413 g/m
(5.3 to 110 lb)

 27 to 413g/m
(7.2 to 110 lb) for the size larger than A4/Letter
2
 128 to 209 g/m
(34 to 56 lb) for A8 size
 1.4 mm (0.06 in.) or less for plastic cards
Documents That Cannot Be Scanned
Successfully
The following types of documents may not be scanned with the ADF
successfully:
 Documents of non-uniform thickness (such as envelopes or
documents with attachments)
 Wrinkled or curled documents
 Folded or torn documents
 Tracing paper
 Coated paper
 Carbon paper
 Photosensitive paper
 Perforated documents
 Documents that are not square or rectangular
 Very thin paper/very thick paper
 Photographs (photographic paper)
Documents That Cannot Be Scanned
The following types of documents must not be scanned with the ADF:
 Paper-clipped or stapled documents
 Documents on which the ink is still wet
 Documents smaller than 50.8 × 69 mm (2 × 2.72 in.)
 Documents wider than 304.8 mm (12 in.)
