DHCP for all workstations. On start-
ing, the OpenCom 100 requests TCP/
IP settings via DHCP. If this request is
responded to, the OpenCom 100
uses the TCP/IP settings received.
You can then use a workstation to
access the OpenCom 100 Configura-
tor under the IP address assigned by
the server.
In networks in which the TCP/IP set-
tings are made manually, you have
to enter the corresponding TCP/IP
settings in the OpenCom 100 Con-
figurator (NET Configuration: Easy
Access menu). Here the
OpenCom 100 acts as the DHCP
server. A workstation requesting the
TCP/IP settings via DHCP then re-
ceives the settings you made in the
Configurator.
DNS Name Resolution
In a LAN with an IP-enabled server,
the latter is also responsible for DNS
name resolution. If you want to start
the Configurator by entering a DNS
name, you must link this name on
the server with the IP address used
by the OpenCom 100. For further in-
formation, refer to the server docu-
mentation.
Note: To access the OpenCom 100
under the same IP address after a re-
start, you must specify this IP address
permanently on a DHCP server. On a
DHCP server it is possible to link the
MAC address of a network card with a

specific IP address. You will find de-
tails in the server documentation.
Internet Access
You can also use the OpenCom 100
as an Internet access server in a LAN
with an IP-enabled server. To do this,
you must enter the OpenCom 100 IP
address on the server as the default
gateway. In addition, you must edit
the internal DNS server configura-
tion so that the resolution of exter-
nal DNS names is forwarded to the
OpenCom 100.
In this example, the Internet connec-
tion is established from a worksta-
tion via the server, which in turn re-
quests Internet access from the
OpenCom 100.
There are two different ways of suit-
ably configuring the internal DNS
server. You can enter the
OpenCom 100 IP address as a DNS
forwarder. If you require access to
extended DNS information, you can
also configure the DNS server for a
recursive DNS request without the
DNS forwarder. For further explana-
tion, refer to the DNS server docu-
mentation.
