OpenCom 100 in a Serverless LAN

In a peer-to-peer network, the work-
stations are connected to one an-
other via network cables. In many
networks, the cables run in the form
of a star from a central hub. Such
networks do not require special
servers. This configuration example
is also valid for a LAN with a server
using a protocol other than TCP/IP
(e.g. AppleTalk or IPX/SPX).

The OpenCom 100 in a serverless LAN
In a serverless LAN, the
OpenCom 100 takes over the IP con-
figuration of the connected worksta-
tions. All TCP/IP settings necessary
for the workstations are assigned by
the OpenCom 100 via DHCP (dy-
namic host configuration protocol).
In this operating mode, an IP ad-
dress space reserved for such net-
works is used:
OpenCom 100 IP address
DHCP addresses: IP address space for work-
stations
PPP addresses: IP address space for RAS
dialling
Network mask (class C network)
DNS server IP address
Default gateway IP address
