Hardware Installation

6.1

Hardware Installation Overview

Follow this order of steps when installing your NetGuardian 480. Detailed instructions for each step are given on
pg. 7–17.
1. Unpack the NetGuardian 480 and check parts.
Please see the shipping list to verify that all parts were included in your shipment.
2. Mount the NetGuardian 480.
The NetGuardian 480 can be mounted in a 19" or 23" rack.
3. Connect power leads to the NetGuardian 480.
4. Connect communication lines to the NetGuardian 480.
The NetGuardian 480 has two communication lines: a LAN connection (for Telnet, SNMP, and DCP) and a
serial port.
5. Connect discrete alarm inputs.
6. Connect control outputs.
7. Connect to the NetGuardian 480.
You can connect to the NetGuardian 480 either through the front panel craft port or through a network
connection. Please note that prior to connecting through the network, you must assign the unit with an IP
address.
8. Provision the NetGuardian 480.
The NetGuardian 480 must be provisioned with alarm descriptions, port parameters, and other system
information. You can provision the NetGuardian 480 using the included T/NG480 utility.

Tools Needed

To install the NetGuardian 480, you'll need the following tools:
Phillips No. 2 Screwdriver
Wire Strippers/Cutter
Small Standard No. 2 Screwdriver
Computer with terminal software or web browser
