SYMPTOM
Poor performance
Starting difficulties
POSSIBLE CAUSE
Carburettor dirty. Fuel pump or one-way
valve faulty.
Excessive carbon formation in combustion
chamber
Incorrect valve gear timing, or valve gear
components worn
Silencer clogged
Air filter clogged or dirty
Clutch slippage
Automatic transmission faulty
Belt worn
Poor compression. Piston rings, cylinder and
valves worn.
Engine oil above maximum level
Carburettor dirty. Fuel pump faulty.
Spark plug faulty or spark advance incorrect
Air filter clogged or dirty
Starting device faulty
Engine flooded
Valve seal poor or valve adjustment incor-
rect
Starting rpm too low or starter motor and
starting system faulty
Fuel deteriorated
Troubleshooting
REMEDY
Remove, wash with solvent and dry with com-
pressed air, or replace
Decoke cylinder, piston, cylinder head and
valves
Restore correct valve gear timing or replace
any worn parts
Replace
Replace
Check and if necessary replace the clutch
assembly and the clutch bell housing
Check the rollers and the sliding of the pul-
leys. Replace any faulty components and lu-
bricate the movable driven pulley guide with
Montblanc Molybdenum Grease.

Replace all worn-out parts
Trace the cause and restore the correct level
Remove, wash with solvent and dry with com-
pressed air, or replace. Check electric pump
wiring.
Replace the spark plug or check the ignition
circuit components
Replace
Check the device and mechanical sliding
Open the throttle wide and try to start the
engine. If the engine does not start, remove
the spark plug, dry it and, before replacing it,
crank the engine to expel the excess fuel,
taking care to keep the spark plug cap con-
nected to the spark plug and the spark plug to
earth. If the fuel has run out, refuel and then
start the engine.
Overhaul the cylinder head and/or restore
the correct play
Check the starter motor, the system and the
torque limiter
Drain all deteriorated fuel and refuel.
