3. Release the tilt stop lever and tilt the out-
board motor down until it contacts the tilt
pin.
4. Place a drain pan under the drain hole
b, remove the gear oil drain screw 3,
then the gear oil check screw 4, and let
the oil drain completely.
5. Check the gear oil. Check the internal
parts of the lower case, if there is metal
or discoloration.
TIP:
If the oil appears milky or dirty, check for and
repair the cause, and then change the oil.

General periodic maintenance
6. Insert a gear oil tube or gear oil pump
into the drain hole b and slowly fill with
gear oil until oil flows out of the check
hole and no air bubbles are visible.
Recommended gear oil:
Hypoid gear oil
API: GL-4
SAE: 90
Gear oil quantity:
F50D: 0.43 L (0.45 US qt, 0.38 Imp qt)
FT50C: 0.67 L (0.71 US qt, 0.59 Imp qt)
7. Install new gaskets and gear oil check
screw 4, and quickly install the gear oil
drain screw 3, and then tighten them to
the specified torque.
Gear oil drain screw 3 and check screw 4:
9 N·m (0.9 kgf·m, 6.6 ft·lb)

Lubrication

1. Apply water resistant grease to the areas
shown.
