Fuel system
10.
Safety and ventilation valve
This valve is located in the fuel filler cap and,
depending on the pressure in the tank, carries
out the following functions:
- When the pressure inside the fuel tank ex
ceeds 0.13 - 0.18 bar, it allows the excess
vapours to be discharged outwards (safety
function).
- If, conversely, there is a vacuum of 0.020 -
0.030 bar in the tank, it allows the intake of
air (ventilation function).
Charcoal filter
The charcoal filter is located in the right
wheel arch; to gain access to it, remove the
rear part of the right front wheel arch liner.
It consists of granules of charcoal (4) which
trap the petrol vapours entering through the
intake (5).
The scavenging air which enters through the
intake (1), through the paper filter (3),
comes into contact with the granules and di
rects them towards the outlet (2) and from
there towards the cut-out valve.
The air, having entered through the intake
(5), can also be recalled by the vacuum in the
tank to ventilate the actual tank. The parti
tion (6) ensures that the air drawn in comes
into contact with all the granules of charcoal
assisting the release of petrol vapours to
wards the inlet manifold.
There are also two springs (7) which allow
the mass of granules to expand when the
pressure increases.
