- Before checking the tension of the chain, tightening
the chain, replacing it or repairing any malfunction,
the motor must be at a standstill (fig. 9).
- If the sawing device is hit by stones or other hard objects,
stop the engine immediately and check the cutting
device.
- When stopping work or leaving the working site, stop the
chain saw (Fig. 9) and leave it in such a manner that it
does not put anyone in danger.
- Do not place the heated chain saw where there is dry
grass or any other inflammable object. The muffler
becomes very hot (fire hazard).
The dripping of the oil of the chain or guide bar
after having stopped the chain saw will pollute
the soil. Always use a suitable base.

3.5 Recoil

- Dangerous bounces may occur when working with the
chain saw.
- Recoils occur when the upper portion of the end of the
guide bar inadvertently touches wood or other hard
objects (Fig. 35).
- Before entering into the cut, the chain may slide sideward
or rebound (caution: high recoil hazard).
- This will cause the chain saw to be launched towards the
operator with great force and without control. Risk of
suffering injuries!
- Always avoid cutting with the indicated bar sector (Fig. 35)
Follow these rules to prevent recoil:
- Laterally penetrating cuts i.e. perforations of logs or wood
with the tip of the saw must only be carried out by specially
trained persons.
- Always observe the end of the guide bar. Be careful when
continuing an already begun cut.
- When beginning to cut the chain must be rotating.
- Make sure that the chain is correctly sharpened at all times.
Pay special attention to the height of the depth gauge.
- Never cut several branches at the same time. When
cutting a branch, make sure that it will not touch any other
branch.
- When cutting through a log, be conscious of any other
logs being close to it.

3.6 Behavior/Working method

- Only use the chain saw during periods of good clarity and
visibility. Be conscious of slippery or wet areas, and of ice
and snow (slip hazard).Slip hazard is very high when
working with recently peeled wood (bark).
- Never work on unstable surfaces. Make sure that there
are no obstacles in the working area – risk of stumbling.
Always make sure that the soil on which you are stepping
is stable.
- Never saw above the height of your shoulders (Fig. 11).
- Never saw when standing on a ladder (Fig. 11).
- Never climb on a tree and never work without the
appropriate securing systems for the operator and the
chain saw. We recommend working always from an
elevator platform (platform for collecting fruit, elevator).
- Do not work inclining yourself too much.
- Lead the chain saw in such a way that none of the parts of
your body are within the extended range of the chain saw
(Fig. 12).
- Use the chain saw to cut wood only.
- Avoid touching the soil with the chain saw when it is still
operating.

- Never use the chain saw to lift or remove pieces of wood
or other objects.
- Remove foreign objects such as sand, stones and nails
from the working area. Foreign objects may damage the
sawing device and may produce dangerous recoils.
- When sawing precut wood, use a safe support
(sawhorse, Fig. 13). Do not hold the work piece with your
foot and do not allow anyone to grasp or hold it.
- Before making a transverse cut, firmly apply the front
portion of the wooden body; only then wood may be cut
with the chain operating. For this purpose, the chain saw
is lifted by the rear handle and guiding is performed with
the tubular handle. The front portion of the body serves as
a rotation center. Continue slightly pressing the tubular
handle downwards and simultaneously pulling the chain
saw backwards. Penetrate a little more with the front
portion of the body and lift the rear handle again.
When wood has to be perforated for cutting it or when
longitudinal cuts have to be made, it is earnestly
recommended that this should be made by specially
trained persons only (high recoil hazard).
- Make longitudinal cuts at the smallest possible angle
(Fig. 14). Be careful when carrying out this kind of cut,
because the front portion of the body may not grasp.
- The chain saw must be always in operation when the saw
is extracted from the wood.
- When making several cuts, you must release the
accelerator lever between each cut.
- Be careful when cutting splintery wood. The cut wood
pieces may be dragged (risk of suffering injuries).
- When cutting with the upper edge of the guide bar, the
chain saw may become pushed towards the operator if
the chain becomes jammed. For this reason, use the
lower edge of the guide bar whenever possible. Thereby,
the chain saw will be pushed away from you (Fig. 15).
- If the wood is subject to tension (Fig. 16), first cut the
pressure side (A). Thereafter, the transverse cut may be
made at the tension side (B). Thereby, the guide bar may
be prevented from getting jammed.

3.7 Cutting trees and branches

People who will cut trees and branches must be
specially trained. High risk of becoming injured.
- When pruning branches, you must lean the chain saw
against the log. Do not use the end of the guide bar for
cutting (recoil hazard).
- Be careful with branches which are subject to tension. Do
no cut loose branches from below.
- Never make tension discharging cuts when standing on
the log.
Before felling a tree, make sure that:
a) Only those people who are really involved in felling
the tree are present in the working area.
b) Each worker
stumbling (people must withdraw in a diagonal line
i.e. in an angle of 45o).
c) The lower portion of the log us free from foreign
objects, scrub and branches. Make sure that the soil
you are stepping on is secure (risk of stumbling).
d) The next working site is located at a distance at least 2
½ times the length of the tree (Fig. 17). Before felling
the tree, check the direction towards which it will fall,
and make sure that there are no people or objects
within a distance of 2 1/2 times the length of the tree.
