4. Rotate the fork leg and install it (B, Figure 5)
through the lower fork cover and the lower fork
bridge. Tighten the lower fork bridge clamp bolts
(A, Figure 5) enough to hold the fork leg in place.
NOTE
The upper fork bridge must be tempo

to the proper height.
5. Lower the upper fork bridge/handlebar assem-

Install the steering head nut and washer (B, Figure
4). Torque the steering head nut to 110 N•m (81
ft.-lb.).
6. Loosen the lower fork bridge clamp bolts. Repo-
sition the fork leg and align the top edge of the fork
tube with the top edge of the upper fork bridge as
shown in Figure 3.
7. Torque the clamp bolts on the lower fork bridge
(A, Figure 5) to 30 N•m (22 ft.-lb.).
NOTE
Use a 6 point, 22 mm socket on the
cap bolt. A 12 point socket will mar
the bolt.
8. If the fork leg was disassembled, torque the cap
bolt (C, Figure 4) to 23 N•m (17 ft.-lb.).
9. Remove the steering head nut (B, Figure 4) and
washer, and remove the upper fork bridge/handle-
bar assembly. Lay the assembly on the frame.
10. Slide the upper fork cover (Figure 9) down the
fork tube. Make sure the cover engages the index-

11. Install the upper fork bridge/handlebar assem-
bly onto the fork legs and steering stem. Install the
steering head nut (B, Figure 4) and washer. Torque
the steering head nut to 110 N•m (81 ft.-lb.).
12. Make sure the upper edge of each fork tube
aligns with the upper edge of the upper fork bridge
as shown in Figure 3. Adjust the fork leg as neces-
sary.
13. Torque the upper fork bridge clamp bolt (A,
Figure 4) on each side to 20 N•m (15 ft.-lb.).
14. Install the front brake master cylinder as
follows:
a. Position the master cylinder so the face of the
clamp mating surface aligns with the mark on
the handlebar. See A, Figure 21.
b. Install the master cylinder clamp (B, Figure
21) so the UP stamped on the clamp faces up.
c. Torque the clamp bolts (Figure 6) to 10 N•m
(89 in.-lb.) Tighten the upper clamp bolt first,
then the lower bolt. There should be a gap at
the lower part of the clamp after tightening.
15. Install the front wheel (Chapter Ten).
16. Install the front fender (Chapter Fourteen).
17. Install the fuel tank (Chapter Eight).
18. If necessary, bleed the front brakes (Chapter
